What is it called when you do everything possible to cleanse another culture from the culture of your own?

I know it is not genocide as genocide involves the killing of people, and that is not what happened. I was watching the movie where country B did the people of country A wrong. The government officials of country A considered the actions of country B to be "an evil act of barbaric proportions", as a result they went on a rigorous campaign to cleanse the cultural influences of country B. They did this by destroying the music and other aspects of culture that were imported from country B. They decided however to spare the life of the immigrants and their descendants of country B. Anyway what is the name of the actions that country A took to rid their culture of the elements of the culture of country B?
